The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has submitted its application for the construction of an independent natural gas system (INGS) to the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy.
The Greek section of the TAP pipeline will be 465km long and will start at Komotini, where it ties into the national grid system.
The pipeline will cross Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, and come onshore in southern Italy.
Rikard Scoufias, TAP’s country manager in Greece, said that the INGS submission will take place soon after the TPA exemption application and constitutes a key element of the final steps towards concluding the permitting process for the construction of the TAP pipeline.
The firm will be ready to start the pipeline operations in time for the first gas exports west of Turkey from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan, which is expected in 2017/18.
