Typhoon Morakot has ruptured a liquefied natural gas pipeline and obstructed the supplies from another serving customers in southern Taiwan, according to officials at CPC Corporation.
The two pipelines transport gas to two clients, not four as reported by the local press, a company official told Reuters.
CPC will move in to repair the damages and restore the supplies to both pipelines after the flood water has receded, the spokesperson added.
According to a report in Taiwan’s Taipei Times, the passing typhoon has forced CPC to shut in 35 gas stations interrupting liquefied natural gas supplies to clients in Kaohsiung and Pingtung Counties.
In a move to mitigate disruptions following the typhoon, the Taiwanese Government has reportedly ordered CPC to delay adjusting gasoline prices until Friday, according to Reuters.
Meanwhile, the death toll from Typhoon Morakot is set to soar as mudslides swallow villages in the area.
