Kuwait’s proposed joint venture petrochemical refinery complex in Vietnam is to go ahead as planned, according to government officials.

The complex, worth $6bn, was inspected by Kuwaiti Oil Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, according to the Kuwait News Agency.

The complex will have a refining capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, with plans to double it to 400,000 if local demand is strong, the news agency reports.

The state-run Kuwait Petroleum formed the joint venture in April 2008 with PetroVietnam, together with Japanese firms Idemitsu Kosan and Mitsui Chemicals.
