South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries has won a $1bn contract to fabricate 175,000t of liquefaction train modules for Chevron’s Gorgon LNG project in Western Australia.
The project requires up to 50 process module units, the heaviest of which will weigh 7,000t and the lightest about 1,200t.
The KBR-led Kellogg joint venture, which is managing the downstream construction and logistics for Gorgon, will supply all the process equipment for the modules.
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and Samsung Heavy Industries and the Indonesian arm of J Ray McDermott competed with Hyundai for the work.
