Cold winter weather has forced Royal Dutch Shell to close the Ormen Lange gas field in Norway, temporarily halting output.
A Shell spokeswoman told Bloomberg that the situation is currently being assessed and measures are being put in place to resolve the problem.
The date for the restart of production at the field has yet to be finalised.
Ormen Lange, the main source of gas for the Langeled pipeline from Norway, is expected to meet as much as 20% of Britain’s gas demand for the next 40 years, according to shareholder Statoil ASA.
Shell said it expects the field to reach a maximum output of 70 million cubic metres a day this year.
Ormen Lange is jointly owned by operator Shell, which holds a 17.04% stake, Statoil with a 28.91% stake, Petoro with 36.48%, Dong Energy with 10.34% and Exxon Mobil with 7.23%.
