Total has announced the sale of its Lindsey Oil Refinery in the UK.

The Lindsay refinery has a total capacity to generate 223,000bpd and is the UK’s third largest refinery.

The firm also plans to close the Dunkirk refinery in France, which combined with the Lindsay sale will enable the firm to meet a key target to cut production by 500,000bpd by 2011, reports Reuters.

Total CEO Christophe de Margerie said the firm does not plan to sell or shut down any other plants.
