Sinopec has hit natural gas flows in an exploration well in Chongqing, southwest China.

Tests showed that the Xinglong 1 well flowed high sulphur gas at a rate of 517,000m per day, according to Reuters.

Xinglong 1 is the most productive well drilled by Sinopec in Chongqing. The company said that the well would aid in expanding its exploration areas and support its Sichuan-to-East China gas project.

The well’s overall gas reserves are yet to be appraised and Sinopec said it would design an exploration plan in the region near its largest Puguang gas field in Sichuan Province.
