State-owned Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has awarded an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contract to a Black & Veatch led consortium for developing a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Ennore in Tamil Nadu state.

KSS Petron India will partner with Black & Veatch for the EPC contract which will also involve commissioning of the LNG receiving terminal on a turnkey basis.

Construction of the facility is scheduled to be completed by 2018.

The LNG terminal will be the first of its kind to be developed along the east coast of the country.

It has a send-out capacity of five million tonnes and is expected to secure LNG supply to the states in southern parts of the country which have high demands for gas, especially in Tamil Nadu and parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
