Gail India has awarded contracts worth Rs5.5bn ($81m) for laying part of the ‘Urga Ganga’ gas pipeline from Phulpur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, to Haldia in West Bengal.
The company will procure line pipes from Jindal Saw, MAN Industries (India), Essar Steel India and China’s Zhongyou BSS (Qinhuangdao) Petropipe for the pipeline which will stretch 341km.

Gail India told PTI: "The Line Pipes for which the orders have been placed will be used in the Phulpur (Uttar Pradesh), Dobhi (Bihar) section of the pipeline."
Planned for completion in three phases, the 1,681km Phulpur-Haldia / Dhamra pipeline will cost Rs120bn ($1.7bn). It will cover the eastern states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, as well as West Bengal.
The first phase, involving an investment of Rs32bn ($472m), will cover 755km and include Phulpur-Mani, Mani-Gorakhpur, Mani-Varanasi, Mani-Dobhi, Dobhi-Silao, Silao-Patna, and Silao-Barauni sections.
Gail has already commenced pipeline laying works for spurlines from Gaya-Barauni-Patna in Bihar.

By GlobalDataSubsequent phases of this pipeline will cover the cities of Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Patna, Barauni, Bokaro, Ranchi, Rourkela, Paradip, Bhubaneshwar, Cuttack, Durgapur, Kolkata, Jamshedpur, and nearby areas, with the help of 30in / 24in mainline and spurlines.
