GE Oil & Gas’ business partner PT IMECO Inter Sarana has secured a contract to supply gas turbine-driven compressors for a third natural gas liquefaction train at the BP-operated Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Indonesia.

GE provided the original equipment for Trains 1 and 2 when the plant was established.

The Tangguh facility in the country’s Papua Barat province is being expanded to increase LNG production by a further 3.8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) and the plant's capacity to 11.4 mtpa.

The majority of the gas produced by Train 3 will provide energy for the domestic market in Indonesia.

GE Oil & Gas Turbomachinery Solutions president and CEO Rod Christie said: “The agreement to provide a third natural gas liquefaction train for Tangguh, nearly 15 years after the agreement to install the first two, is a reflection of the enduring performance of the existing plant machinery supplied by GE Oil & Gas.

“The equipment similarity to the other two LNG trains and the single source of the entire shaft line are key factors that will enable smooth and optimised operation and maintenance of the plant.”

GE will manufacture the components of the turbo compressor strings at its facilities in Greenville, South Carolina, US and Florence, Italy, where the train will be assembled and load tested.

Train 3 will be equipped with advanced sensors and monitoring capabilities, enabling continuous equipment care and increased availability.

The gas turbine-driven compressors will be ready for shipment to Indonesia in mid-2018.

GE Oil & Gas will also supply a heat recovery steam generator for the low pressure / medium pressure mixed refrigerant (MR) string and the propane / high pressure MR string.

BP operates the Tangguh field on behalf of its partners MI Berau, CNOOC Muturi, Nippon Oil Exploration (Berau), KG Berau Petroleum, KG Wiriagar Overseas, Indonesia Natural Gas Resources Muturi, and Talisman Wiriagar Overseas.
