Mexico has launched the second open bid process for 12 onshore oil and gas fields for next year.
The country’s oil regulator Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos (CNH) has approved auction terms and contracts for these fields, which are planned to be bid as part of a series of tenders.
CNH said that the second phase of the ‘Round Two’ tender will feature licenses and winners will be announced on 7 April next year.
The oil and gas blocks would be offered under Ronda 2.2, cover a total of 5,066km², hold about 643.2 million barrel of oil equivalent (boe) and are located within Burgos basin in the southern state of Chiapas, as well as the south-east basin.
Seven out of the total blocks on offer are for exploration and extraction, while only five are for exploration.
At the time of the consultation, communities will be informed on possible exploration and extraction, as well as the benefits associated with the implementation of these activities.
