Aden Oil Refinery has restarted operations from its main oil refinery located in the port city of Aden, following nine months of suspension due to attacks on the pipeline in the province of Mareb.

The refinery will now resume production after it received two shipments of crude oil from the Ras Isa export terminal on the Red Sea coast.

Aden Refinery executive manager Dr Najeeb Mansour was quoted by the Saba news agency that the sabotage attacks on the oil pipelines cost the country $50m monthly.

A refinery official said that production will be regular at the refinery with 600,000 barrel weekly shipments from Ras Isa.

Local tribesmen were said to be behind the attacks on the pipeline which had been repeatedly sabotaged. Cashing in on weakened central government, the attackers planned to get concessions from the government.

The sabotage of the country’s outputs of oil and gas to the refinery has caused an acute shortage of fuel, which forced the federal government to seek fuel from Saudi Arabia, reports Saba news.
