China’s petroleum and chemical corporation (Sinopec), through its subsidiary the Sinopec East China Petroleum Bureau, has reported-record high oil flow in three wells in the Subei Basin.

Following testing, the Qinye 1HF well reported a daily oil production of 55 tonnes, while the Shuaiye 3-7HF well reported 20 tonnes per day.

Over 392 days of continuous flow, the Shaduo One well reported a cumulative production of 11,000 tonnes.

Sinopec said that its 420km2 established area, with 350 million tonnes of shale oil resources in the Qintong sag, has showed good exploration and development prospects in the region, based on the preliminary evaluation.

In a press statement, Sinopec said: “The shale oil in the Subei basin has a burial depth of more than 3,000 meters, where development is difficult as the pressure is high and the storage space is thinner than a hair, bringing great challenges to processing techniques like drilling and fracturing.

“The Sinopec East China Petroleum Bureau has achieved this major breakthrough in shale oil exploration by exploring the Subei basin to strengthen research on formation conditions and enrichment patterns of continental shale oil.”

During the exploration, Sinopec  also created the Fuling shale gas field in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality. The field has produced a cumulative total of 40 billion cubic metres of shale gas.

The new discovery brings the field’s total proven reserves to nearly 900 billion cubic meters. This accounts for 34% of China’s proven shale gas reserves.

According to Xinhua, the new gas reserves are located in the Baima block.

In August this year, Sinopec made a new oil and gas field discovery in the Shunbei area of the Tarim Basin.

The discovery is estimated to hold approximately 100 million tonnes of oil equivalent.
