Poland will not extend its contract to increase imports of natural gas from Russia until 2037.

Both countries had agreed to increase annual gas deliveries from Russia by an average of two billion cubic metres and extend the agreement until 2037.

Polish Economics Minister Waldemar Pawlak said the agreement will instead be valid until 2022.

Another agreement between the countries concerning gas transit, which came into force in 2007, will be valid until 2019 instead of 2045, said Pawlak.
