Norwegian geophysical firm Magseis has been awarded a contract to provide global Ocean Bottom Seismic (OBS) acquisition services for an oil and gas explorer Statoil over the next five years.
Under the frame agreement, Magseis will be responsible for 4D OBS work on the Oseberg and Gullfaks fields during 2014 and the Kvitebjørn field during 2015. Magseis will use its Artemis Athene vessel for laying OBS cables at the fields.

The work is expected to be completed in about 200 days, subject to weather conditions and interference.
Magseis said that the deal will regulate the work that has been secured for this year and 2015 season and for future tenders during the term of the agreement.
Magseis CEO Ivar Gimse said: "This is a break-through for Magseis and our technology and we are very pleased to have been selected as one of Statoil’s OBS service providers under a multi-year agreement.
"This establishes Magseis as a leading provider of the next generation of OBS services, and with the expected duration of the current Albatross and Snøhvit project, we expect that our first vessel Artemis Athene will be occupied with Statoil for the majority of 2014."

By GlobalDataIn July 2013 Magseis signed a contract with Statoil for OBS acquisition on the Snøhvit and Albatross Fields as part of the Snøhvit development.
Magseis said its proprietary Marine Autonomous Seismic System (MASS) has been developed to significantly improve the efficiency of OBS operations.
