US-based Coastal Bend LNG has appointed KBR and Técnicas Reunidas to carry out the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase of its proposed natural gas liquefaction and export terminal on the Texas Gulf Coast.
According to an earlier announcement by Coastal Bend LNG in July 2025, the company began developing the facility with a capacity of 22.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).

Subject to a positive final investment decision, KBR and Técnicas Reunidas will also undertake the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) stage of the project.
The collaboration between KBR and Técnicas Reunidas will involve delivering the FEED for multiple large-scale liquefaction trains using ConocoPhillips’ optimised cascade process (OCP).
This design aims to produce cost-effective liquefied natural gas (LNG) while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with Coastal Bend LNG’s objectives.
Técnicas Reunidas deputy CEO and chief commercial officer Arthur Crossley said: “Coastal Bend LNG exemplifies how we, along with our customers and technology providers, can develop lower-carbon LNG by applying decarbonisation innovations to meet the evolving expectations of LNG end-markets.”

By GlobalDataThe proposed facility will feature as many as five liquefaction trains, each with a capacity of 4.5mtpa. The project also involves cogeneration units, LNG storage tanks, and export infrastructure to support shipping, marine bunkering and International Organization for Standardisation container loading.
The facilities will also incorporate carbon capture, transportation and storage systems to provide low-carbon-intensity natural gas derived from US onshore basins.
Coastal Bend LNG CEO Nick Flores said: “KBR and Técnicas Reunidas bring impressive expertise in engineering and design across many process technologies, including LNG and industrial decarbonisation, and share our mission to provide low-carbon energy to the world.
“Our collaboration with KBR, Técnicas Reunidas and ConocoPhillips, and their combined experience in this space, will enable us to maximise our facility’s efficiency and economic targets, while minimising our carbon intensity.”
In August 2025, Coastal Bend LNG selected EXP as the lead environmental consultant for the natural gas liquefaction and export facility. The latter will provide key environmental consulting services that are essential to developing the facilities.
