Rex International Holding has announced that its indirect subsidiary, Akrake Petroleum, has completed drilling the AK-2H production well in the Sèmè Field, offshore Benin, West Africa.
The AK-2H well was drilled horizontally for 1,405m through the reservoir section, encountering approximately 950m of oil-saturated reservoir sandstone from the Cretaceous-age Abeokuta Formation, known as H6.

The remaining section consists of non-reservoir shale. No water-bearing sand was found during drilling. Advanced logging-while-drilling tools were used to geo-steer the well and target only oil-bearing sandstone.
Reservoir quality was reported to be as expected, with an average porosity exceeding 19% and average oil saturation above 70%.
The reservoir section has been finished, with screens equipped with autonomous inflow control valves (AICVs) maintaining well openness and preventing sand from entering.
These AICVs are designed to reduce water production and maximise oil output. Installation of a downhole electrical submersible pump above the screens is currently under way.
