France-based Viridien has secured a five-year contract from Ithaca Energy to provide an integrated environmental monitoring and marine situational awareness solution for the UK North Sea’s Greater Stella Area.
The contract will see Viridien support post-decommissioning monitoring using a system approved by the UK’s Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED).

Under the agreement, Viridien will deploy an integrated monitoring solution instead of traditional guard-vessel coverage.
The solution combines Sercel’s Marlin Vessel Tracking and Alerts platform with Viridien’s SeaScope service.
The Marlin system tracks vessel movements in real time and provides automated alerts for offshore infrastructure, geofences and proximity, while also displaying satellite imagery and sea surface data from SeaScope.

SeaScope uses automation, metocean data and interpretation to conduct large-scale surveillance of ocean areas surrounding offshore assets.
Viridien said the solution will give Ithaca Energy improved situational awareness, helping it detect potential releases, identify their sources and respond effectively to incidents involving its assets or other parties’ activities.
By integrating vessel data and environmental intelligence into a single operational display, operators can proactively manage risks during post-decommissioning monitoring.
Last month, Viridien entered into a multi-client partnership with Société de Pétroles du Sénégal, Senegal’s state petroleum company.
The agreement sets a framework for delivering subsurface intelligence across the MSGBC Basin, spanning Mauritania, Senegal, the Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea Conakry.
The partnership is intended to support subsurface characterisation, technical standards and capacity building in the region.
