Centalion, formerly known as Gunvor, has acquired a portfolio of upstream and midstream natural gas assets in Texas and Louisiana from US-based private energy company Silver Hill Energy Partners.

The transaction involves properties in the core of the Haynesville and Bossier development areas. The package consists of approximately 72,000 net acres and current net production of approximately 300 million cubic feet per day (mcf/d) of natural gas.

The assets include around 300 gross operated development locations.

The exact value of the transaction has not been disclosed by the companies. However, Reuters, reporting on the then-potential deal in August 2026, wrote that the consideration was between $1.2bn (SFr990m) and $1.5bn.

Centalion chairman and CEO Gary Pedersen said: “This acquisition adds a high-quality, scalable position in the core of Haynesville, with a substantial development runway.

“Consistent with the goals of US energy dominance, Centalion will deploy capital to develop US natural resources, generate economic activity in communities and bolster the domestic energy supply on which households and industries depend.”

Silver Hill accumulated most of the acreage through acquisitions made from late 2021 to mid-2023.

During this period, Silver Hill increased natural gas production from less than 100mcf/d to more than 300mcf/d by operating up to four rigs and improving development and cost efficiencies.

The company expanded its midstream and saltwater disposal capacity, signed long-term gathering and transportation agreements, and focused on optimisation in response to gas market volatility.

Silver Hill founder and CEO Kyle Miller said: “After years of disciplined growth and risk management in a fluctuating market, we are thrilled with this outcome and confident our assets will thrive under Centalion’s stewardship.

“A collaborative and commercial approach from both teams ensured an efficient process, and we look forward to seeing these assets play an increasingly important role for the Haynesville and the broader natural gas market.”

The acquisition supports Centalion’s Gulf Coast natural gas strategy.

Earlier in the year, Centalion increased its holdings in the Haynesville basin.

With these additions, the company’s pro-forma Haynesville position is currently one of the largest among private operators, according to the company.

The transaction also marks ongoing collaboration between Centalion and Western Natural Resources, led by Heath Mireles.

Together, they plan to pursue further development in the basin while using Centalion’s Gulf Coast infrastructure and trading operations to seek optimisation and value creation opportunities, with exposure to domestic and liquefied natural gas demand points.

Greenhill, a Mizuho affiliate, acted as Centalion’s exclusive financial adviser and Kirkland & Ellis was legal counsel.

Silver Hill was advised exclusively by Jefferies, with Willkie Farr & Gallagher as legal counsel.

Silver Hill has raised approximately $4.2bn in institutional equity across five partnerships.

Its remaining operated portfolio comprises Bakken and Eagle Ford assets, with roughly 115,000 operated net acres, along with 1,000 gross drilling locations and related midstream businesses.
