GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Petroleum Products Pipelines Industry Outlook to 2023 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook with Details of All Operating and Planned Petroleum Products Pipelines’ indicates that as of November 2019, the total length of global trunk/transmission petroleum products pipelines length was 268,783.8km (with start years up to 2023). Transneft Product System is the longest active petroleum products pipeline in the world. It has a length of 19,000km and a design capacity of 359.3mmbbl.

Globally, 62 planned and announced trunk/transmission petroleum products pipelines are expected to start operations by 2023 with a length of 20,508.6km. Asia leads globally with 35 new-build petroleum products pipelines by 2023 with a total length of 12,076.2km. The region’s share in the global petroleum products pipeline length is 59%. Paradip–Hyderabad is the longest petroleum products pipeline in the region expected to start operations in 2021 with a length of 1,212km.

The Middle East has the second-highest petroleum products pipeline length globally (with start years up to 2023), with 3,483.2km accounting 17% of the global new-build petroleum products pipeline network. Abadan–Rey is the longest petroleum products pipeline in the region, which is expected to start operations in 2020 with a length of 920.0 km. Africa ranks third in contribution to the new-build petroleum products pipeline length additions globally. Africa is expected to witness the start of operations of six new-build pipelines by 2023, of which four are from planned with a length of 1,813.6 km, and two are from early-stage announced projects with a length of 1,271km. Zinder–Torodi is the longest petroleum products pipeline expected to commence operations in 2023 with length of 1,070km.
