GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook for LNG Regasification Terminals, 2022-2026’, indicates global liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification capacity is expected to grow by 48%, potentially increasing from 49.1 trillion cubic feet (tcf) in 2021 to 72.6tcf in 2026. Among regions, Asia leads global regasification capacity additions from newbuild and expansion projects, contributing about 75% of the total global total additions. The region is expected to add 17.7tcf during 2022-2026. Europe and Africa follow with capacity additions of 3.8tcf and 682 billion cubic feet (bcf), respectively.
Among countries, China leads globally with 6.0tcf of regasification capacity additions by 2026. India and the Philippines follow with capacities of 3.7tcf and 1.8tcf, respectively.
Among planned and announced terminals expected to start operations by 2026, Tangshan II in China continues to lead globally with the highest LNG regasification capacity of 584.4bcf. Seomkum in South Korea and Matarbari II in Bangladesh follow with regasification capacities of 564.9bcf and 547.5bcf, respectively.
