GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Oil and Gas Pipelines Industry Outlook to 2024 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook with Details of All Operating and Planned Pipelines’ says that the total length of global trunk / transmission pipeline network is 2,083,369km (with operation start years up to 2024, as of November 2020), of which, crude oil pipelines constitute 379,874km, petroleum products pipelines constitute 267,351km, natural gas pipelines constitute 1,334,241km and NGL pipelines constitute 101,903km.

As of November 2020, there were 4,138 active and suspended pipelines with a length of 1,966,889km. By 2024, 446 planned and announced pipelines are expected to start operations with a total length 116,479km.

Among regions, North America has the highest share of 43.2% in the global transmission pipeline length with 899,399km, followed by the Former Soviet Union with 419,021km and Asia with 225,382km, respectively.
