GlobalData’s latest report, “Global LNG Industry Outlook to 2026 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook with Details of All Operating and Planned Terminals”, indicates that the total liquefaction capacity of North America in 2021 was 73 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). The liquefaction capacity in North America increased from 9Mtpa in 2016 to 73Mtpa in 2021, at an AAGR of 41.6%. The US and Canada are the two countries in North America with active liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction terminals in 2021.

Sabine Pass Export (US), Cameron Export (US), and Corpus Christi (US) are the largest liquefaction terminals in North America. Sabine Pass Export started operations in 2016 while both Cameron Export and Corpus Christi started operations in 2019.

In North America, the US dominates with a liquefaction capacity of 68Mtpa in 2021, contributing to 99.7% of North America’s total capacity. Sabine Pass Export, Cameron Export, and Corpus Christi are the largest liquefaction terminals in the US.

Canada contributed to the rest of the liquefaction capacity. It holds 0.3% of North America’s total liquefaction capacity. Tilbury is the only active liquefaction terminal in the country.
