GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global LNG Industry Outlook to 2026 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook with Details of All Operating and Planned Terminals’, indicates that the total liquefaction capacity of Oceania in 2021 was 96 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). The liquefaction capacity in Oceania increased from 68mtpa in 2016 to 96mtpa in 2021 at an AAGR of 6.8%. Australia and Papua New Guinea are the two countries in Oceania with active LNG liquefaction terminals in 2021.
North-West Shelf (Australia), Gorgon (Australia) and Australia Pacific (Australia) are the largest liquefaction terminals in Oceania. These started operations in 1989, 2016 and 2016, respectively.

In Oceania, Australia leads among countries with a liquefaction capacity of 89mtpa in 2021, contributing to 92.8% of Oceania’s total capacity. North-West Shelf, Gorgon and Australia Pacific are the major active liquefaction terminals in the country.
Papua New Guinea contributed to the rest of the liquefaction capacity. It holds 7.2% of Oceania’s total liquefaction capacity. PNG is the active liquefaction terminal in the country.
