GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Small-Scale LNG Liquefaction Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook, 2022 – 2026’, indicates that global small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction capacity is expected to grow by 26% over the next four years, potentially increasing from 35,390 thousand tonnes per annum (ktpa) in 2022 to 44,740ktpa in 2026.
Among regions, Asia is expected to witness the highest small-scale LNG liquefaction capacity additions globally, from newbuild and expansion projects during the outlook period 2022 to 2026, with 3,850ktpa. Africa is another major region with 2,380ktpa of capacity to be added by 2026.

Among countries, China leads globally with 3,810ktpa of newbuild and expansion small-scale liquefaction capacity additions by 2026. Oman and Nigeria are other major contributors, with capacities of 2,000ktpa and 1,990ktpa, respectively.
Among newbuild and expansion projects expected to start operations from 2022 to 2026, Xi an in China is expected to witness the highest capacity globally, with 1,400ktpa. Rumuji in Nigeria and Marsa in Oman are the other major contributors, with 1,090ktpa and 1,000ktpa, respectively. Xi an is expected to start operations in 2023, while Rumuji and Marsa will commence operations in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
