Of the total planned and announced pipeline length in North America, crude oil pipelines constitute 15,711.6 km, petroleum products pipelines constitute 1,130.2 km, natural gas pipelines constitute 18,592.6 km, and natural gas liquids (NGL) pipelines
constitute 9,359.2 km. By 2023, 151 new-build pipelines are expected to start operations in North America. The region’s share to the global planned and announced pipeline length is 27.7 per cent.

Among countries, the US is expected to witness the highest new-build pipeline length (with start years up to 2023) of 34,405.2 km accounting 76.8 per cent of the region’s new-build pipeline network. In the US, planned and announced crude oil pipelines constitute 10,954.7 km, planned and announced petroleum products pipelines constitute 1,117.2 km, planned and announced natural gas pipelines constitute 9,109.2 km and planned and announced NGL pipelines constitute 9,109.2 km. Followed by the US, Canada is expected to witness the start of operations of 28 new-build pipelines by 2023 with a total length of 7,731.9 km.

Of the total planned and announced pipeline length in Canada, crude oil pipelines constitute 4,756.9 km, petroleum products pipelines constitute 13.0 km, natural gas pipelines constitute 2,712.1 km, and NGL pipelines constitute 250.0 km. By 2023, the entire contribution of Mexico’s new-build pipeline length would come from six natural gas pipelines with a total length of 2,656.5 km.
