GlobalData’s latest analysis of the global planned ammonia capacity shows that Iran has the highest planned ammonia capacity additions globally with 8.3 million tonnes per year (mtpa) during 2018 to 2022, followed by India and Nigeria with 6.4mtpa and 4.2mtpa respectively.

Presently, Iran accounts for 22.2% of the total global planned ammonia capacity additions in 2022. The country has 20 planned ammonia plants. Among these, FALAT RCF GSFC JV Chabahar Ammonia Plant have the highest capacity of 1.05mtpa, followed by Hengam Petrochemical Company Assaluyeh Ammonia with a capacity of 0.7mtpa.

India has 17% share in the global planned ammonia capacity additions in 2022. The country has 13 planned ammonia plants. Eight planned plants have capacity of 0.7mtpa, tying for the highest capacity in the country. Some of these plants include Fertilizers & Chemicals Travancore Kochi Ammonia Plant 2, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Thal Ammonia Plant 3 and The Fertilizer Corporation of India Sindri Ammonia Plant 2.

Nigeria is expected to contribute about 11.3% to the total global planned ammonia capacity additions in 2022. The country has six planned ammonia plants. Brass Fertilizer & Petrochemical Company Limited Brass Ammonia Plant leads with a capacity of 0.8mtpa. Dangote Group Agenebode Ammonia Plant 1, Dangote Group Agenebode Ammonia Plant 2, Dangote Group Lekki Ammonia Plant 1 and Dangote Group Lekki Ammonia Plant 2 are jointly in second, each with a capacity of 0.7mtpa.

The US has 9.8% share in the global planned ammonia capacity additions in 2022. The country has eight planned plants. The top planned plants in terms of capacity are Cronus Chemicals Tuscola Ammonia Plant and Ohio Valley Resources Rockport Ammonia Plant, each with a capacity of 0.8mtpa.

Russia is expected to contribute about 5.5% to the total global planned ammonia capacity additions in 2022. The country has four planned ammonia plants. EuroChem- Northwest Kingisepp Ammonia Plant leads with a capacity of 1.0mtpa, followed by Kemerovo Azot Kemerovo Ammonia Plant 3 with a capacity of 0.7mtpa.

Indonesia, Egypt, China, Azerbaijan and Belarus together are expected to have ammonia capacity additions of 5.6mtpa, or around 15% of the total global planned ammonia capacity additions in 2022.
