DONG Energy has contracted SPT Offshore for the structural and geotechnical design of suction bucket foundations for potentially five transformer substations, Burbo Bank Extension, Race Bank and Walney Extension.

The four suction buckets will potentially form the foundation of four-leg jackets supporting high-voltage transmission substations weighing approximately 2,500t each. Water depths vary from 11m to 29m lowest astronomical tide.

Installation of the first substation jacket is planned for 2016.
