Anchor Industries took delivery of a large diameter wire rope press during January capable of handling wire rope up to 76mm in diameter.

According to Dale Hutcheson of Anchor Industries, their new investment will further increase their ability to offer a wider range of products to the offshore oil industry.

‘The oil industry has been a focus of our marketing drive,’ he said, adding that they are now receiving regular enquiries from all over the world.

The press, which has been imported from Taiwan is equipped with a full range of dies, ferrules and thimbles. Hutcheson says that they have had increased enquiries for slings and pennants wires using large diameter wire rope. ‘Having the equipment does not guarantee business however, so great emphasis has also been placed on infrastructure to be able to handle, work, spool and splice the larger diameter wire ropes.’ These processes are managed through their existing DNV approved IOS9002 quality control system.

Apart from their latest investment, Anchor Industries reports that their chain inspection unit, which is capable of inspecting stud link chain up to 84mm, allows them to visually inspect the chain and hydraulically press any loose studs, in one compact unit.

‘This service allows us to offer rig operators a great advantage in that they no longer necessarily have to scrap chain with loose links as these can be pressed before being placed back into operation,’ said Hutcheson.
