Bolt loosening is not a new phenomenon and is always associated with extra costs for the company involved. Regardless of the type of industry, Nord-Lock will solve problems with loosening related to vibrations, dynamic loads and temperature flexing. The secret behind our bolt securing system lies in the geometry – our wedge-locking technique uses tension to make the bolt self-locking. The key is the difference in angles; since the cam angle is larger than the thread pitch, the pair of washers expands more than the corresponding pitch of the thread.

Bolt securing systems for the offshore industry
For many years Nord-Lock has been working closely with a major oil company, to help establish a best practice for bolt securing at heights, and to minimise dropped objects related to bolted joints. The result of that work has put Nord-Lock in several of the world’s largest oil companies’ safety handbooks.
This was only possible thanks to the fact that we meet the high standard that these companies’ set for their suppliers of safety equipment. We also carry a DNV Certificate for our standard range of washers as well as the material most frequently used for corrosive environments, SMO254. Online bolt securing product training
While implementing a HSE product in the oil and gas industry, we saw a need for product training. Therefore, we established an e-learning portal for our customers to use. With this convenient online training, the person responsible for mounting the washers will obtain knowledge about how and why Nord-Lock works, and where and when to use it. As long as there is an internet connection, you can take the course from anywhere in the world.
A safety and training manager or equivalent can use the course administration site to define who should take the course, as well as follow the results of the company’s participants. The e-learning site was especially designed for the E&P company, who have a number of different operating sites both on and offshore.

In 2011, Nord-Lock will gradually introduce a laser marking on each washer pair, including the Nord-Lock brand, the control number and a type code. This new feature offers added value for the users since it improves traceability and control. Improved traceability with laser marking
