ADNOC AI unit partners with Baker Hughes on drilling operations efficiency

The companies will develop, deploy, and commercialise advanced analytics solutions AI products for the oil and gas industry.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (ADNOC) artificial intelligence (AI) unit, AIQ, has partnered with US-based Baker Hughes to improve efficiency of upstream oil and gas operations.

Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly develop, deploy, and commercialise advanced analytics solutions AI products for the oil and gas industry.

AIQ CEO Omar Al Marzooqi said: “AI plays an instrumental role in enabling smarter, more efficient and sustainable growth for energy producers such as ADNOC, as well as the wider oil and gas industry, and AIQ is focused on accelerating the development of new AI solutions that can unlock greater value for the industry as the energy transition unfolds.

“Baker Hughes is a long-term strategic partner of ADNOC and we are excited to work with them to unlock new opportunities to further advance our strategic objectives.”

The project will initially focus on developing AI solutions to help optimise Adnoc’s drilling activity.

Work includes analysing drilling data and identifying potential opportunities that would improve ADNOC’s drilling trajectories and programmes.

Baker Hughes said that the project will support ADNOC’s efforts to increase drilling activities as it aims to increase crude oil production capacity to five million barrels per day by 2030.

Baker Hughes oilfield services executive vice-president Maria Claudia Borras said: “Baker Hughes remains committed to helping our customers reach their own energy transition ambitions, and digital transformation has an important role to play.

“We are pleased that our agreement with AIQ not only builds on our longstanding partnership with ADNOC and ADNOC Drilling, but it also provides us with the opportunity to develop, deploy, and commercialise solutions to transform core oil and gas operations for a better energy future.”

AIQ, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi’s Group 42 and ADNOC, is working on several key AI projects for the oil and gas industry.
