Architecture and Engineering Occupations drive renewable energy-related hiring activity

Architecture and Engineering Occupations, with a share of 15%, emerged as the top renewable energy-related job roles within the oil and gas industry in Q3 2023, with new job postings drop by 36% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 10% in Q3 2023, with new job postings dropping by 46% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent renewable energy roles include Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 9% share in Q3 2023, Computer and Mathematical Occupations with a 8% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in oil and gas industry accounted for 38% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2023 were SBM Offshore, NES Global Talent Norge, Shell, APA Group, and John Wood Group. Together they accounted for a combined share of 38% of all renewable energy-related new jobs in the oil and gas industry.

SBM Offshore posted 500 renewable energy-related new jobs in Q3 2023, NES Global Talent Norge 275 jobs, Shell 220 jobs, APA Group 156 jobs, and John Wood Group 156 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 35.74% share of total new job postings, Q3 2023

The largest share of renewable energy-related new job postings in the oil and gas industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 35.74% followed by Australia (12.48%) and the UK (8.67%). The share represented by the US was one percentage point higher than the 34.91% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
