Middle East & Africa witnessed a 10.8% drop in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

August 2021 has seen a decrease of 3.69% in the overall hiring activity when compared with July 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.79% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2021, registering a decrease of 0.37% over the last three-month average share.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations Occupations leads by classification in August 2021

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 34.78% in August 2021, a 20% drop over the previous month. Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers came in next, claiming a share of 34.78% in August 2021, marking a 33.33% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Research Scientists with a share of 13.04% in August 2021, a 40% drop from July 2021.

Computer Support Specialists registered a share of 13.04% in August 2021, a flat growth over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Middle East & Africa’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 33.33% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s oil & gas industry during August 2021 over previous month.

Sasol posted 7 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Henkel AGKGaA with 3 jobs and a 66.67% drop. Baker Hughes Holdings with 2 IT jobs and Qatar Gas Transport with 2 jobs, recorded a 60% drop and a 100% rise, respectively, while Worley recorded a flat growth with 2 job postings during August 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s oil & gas industry

South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 34.78% share in August 2021, a 20% decrease over July 2021. Saudi Arabia featured next with a 21.74% share, down 16.67% over the previous month. Egypt recorded a 17.39% share, a drop of 69.23% compared with July 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 43.48%, down by 58.33% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 39.13% share, registered a decline of 18.18% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 17.39% share, down 42.86% over July 2021.
