June 2021 has seen an decrease of 3.12% in the overall hiring activity when compared with May 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.78% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in June 2021, registering decrease of 0.02% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in June 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 43.95% in June 2021, a 12.8% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 15.12% in June 2021, marking a 16.67% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer Support Specialists with a share of 13.1% in June 2021, a 22.64% growth from May 2021.

Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in June 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 40.43% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during June 2021 over previous month.

Marathon Petroleum posted 58 IT jobs in June 2021 and registered a an increase of 81.25% over the previous month, followed by Phillips 66 with 24 jobs and a 60% growth. Baker Hughes Holdings with 20 IT jobs and RigNet with 15 jobs, recorded a 13.04% decline and a 66.67% increase, respectively, while Halliburton recorded a flat growth with 15 job postings during June 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with an 85.48% share in June 2021, a 15.03% decline over May 2021. Canada featured next with an 11.9% share, down 7.81% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 2.62% share, a drop of 27.78% compared with May 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in June 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.94%, down by 22.79% from May 2021. Mid Level positions with a 20.56% share, a growth of 3.03% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 12.5% share, up 26.53% over May 2021.
