North America witnessed a 7.4% rise in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in July 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.
July 2021 has seen an increase of 3.33% in the overall hiring activity when compared with June 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 4.17% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in July 2021, registering an increase of 0.14% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in July 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 50.87% in July 2021, an 18.08% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 14.79% in July 2021, marking a 29.17% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 11.92% in July 2021, a 29.31% growth from June 2021.
Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 11.45% in July 2021, a 35.85% rise over the previous month.
Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 50.75% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during July 2021 over previous month.
Exxon Mobil posted 75 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered an increase of 1150% over the previous month, followed by PPG Industries with 43 jobs and a 152.94% growth. Marathon Petroleum with 37 IT jobs and TotalEnergies with 25 jobs, recorded a 45.59% decline and a 10.71% drop, respectively, while RigNet recorded a 46.67% increase with 22 job postings during July 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 79.33% share in July 2021, a 3.74% rise over June 2021. Canada featured next with a 14.94% share, up 56.67% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 5.72% share, a growth of 140% compared with June 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 62.8%, up by 9.12% from June 2021. Mid Level positions with a 26.87% share, a growth of 43.22% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 9.54% share, down 21.05% over June 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.79%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
