The UK’s oil & gas industry registered a flat growth in IT hiring activity in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring a decreased by 3.19% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 6.67% share in August 2021, recording an increase of 0.18% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 47.83% in August 2021, registering a 24.14% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 19.57% share, a decrease of 10% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 19.57%, registering an 80% rise from July 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 8.7%, down 20% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 40% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

Johnson Matthey posted 8 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 60% over the previous month, followed by BP with 5 jobs and a 37.5% drop. Subsea 7 with 5 IT jobs and John Wood Group with 5 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Baker Hughes Holdings recorded an increase of 150% with 5 job postings during August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 56.52%, down by 23.53% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 28.26% share, registered a decline of 27.78% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 8.7% share, up 33.33% over July 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 6.52%, recording a month-on-month increase of 50%.
