A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11866655B2) discloses a method for producing a hydrocarbon material known as White Alkane with specific properties. The White Alkane produced has a density ranging from 810-890 kg/m3 at 20°C, viscosity from 3-240 cSt at 40°C, pour point from -18 to +3°C, and flash point from 115-290°C. The method involves selecting a feed material containing renewable carbon, hydro-decarboxylating and hydro-deoxygenating the feed material to produce a first intermediate, which may consist of a mixture of molecules. The feed material can include various sources such as soy, canola, castor, corn, and animal fats, among others, with hydrocarbon chains of specific lengths.

Furthermore, the method includes additional steps such as polymerizing the feed material, separating the first intermediate into different components, removing impurities like wax and alkanes, and purifying the intermediate product to produce the White Alkane. The purification process involves techniques like hydro finishing, sulfur trioxide application, and activated carbon filtration to remove impurities and ensure the final product meets the specified properties. The White Alkane produced through this method is described as chemically stable, colorless, oily, tasteless, and water-insoluble, containing 50% or more renewable carbon. Overall, the patent outlines a detailed process for producing White Alkane from renewable carbon sources, emphasizing specific properties and purification steps to achieve a high-quality end product.
