Oil & gas industry private equity deals in Q1 2019 total $9.46bn in US

Total oil & gas industry private equity deals in Q1 2019 worth $9.46bn were announced in the US, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 91.7% over the previous quarter and a rise of 42.8% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $6.62bn.

The US held a 73.01% share of the global oil & gas industry private equity deal value that totalled $12.95bn in Q1 2019.

In terms of deal activity, the US recorded 33 deals during Q1 2019, marking a flat growth over the previous quarter and a rise of 17.9% over the last four-quarter average.

US oil & gas industry private equity deals in Q1 2019: Top deals

The top five oil & gas industry private equity deals accounted for 79% of the overall value during Q1 2019.

The combined value of the top five oil & gas industry private equity deals stood at $7.47bn, against the overall value of $9.46bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced oil & gas industry private equity deal tracked by GlobalData in Q1 2019 was The Blackstone Group’s $3.2bn private equity deal with Tallgrass Energy.

In second place was the $1.6bn private equity deal with Targa Badlands by Blackstone Tactical Opportunities Advisors and GSO Capital Partners and in third place was Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners’ $1bn private equity deal with Discovery Midstream Holdings II.

The $930m private equity deal with Goodnight Midstream by TPG Capital and Hartree Partners and Oaktree Capital Management’s private equity deal with Hartree Bulk Storage for $735m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
