Canada’s oil & gas industry registered a 12.5% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 5.23% in September 2022 when compared with August 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.8% share in September 2022, recording an increase of 0.11% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.59% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry in September 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 26.51% in September 2022, registering a 15.79% growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 24.1% share, an increase of 42.86% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 22.89%, registering a 46.15% rise from August 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 18.07%, up 50% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 178.57% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s oil & gas industry during September 2022 over August 2022.

Parkland posted 13 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a rise of 333.33% over the previous month, followed by TC Energy with 8 jobs and a 33.33% growth. Nutrien with 7 IT jobs and Cenovus Energy with 6 jobs, recorded a 600% growth and a 500% growth, respectively, while Koch Industries recorded an increase of 66.67% with 5 job postings during September 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 57.83%, up by 9.09% from August 2022. Mid Level positions with a 30.12% share, registered an increase of 92.31% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 12.05% share, up 100% over August 2022.
