China’s oil & gas industry registered a 17.4% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 6.57% in August 2022 when compared with July 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.71% share in August 2022, recording a decrease of 0.56% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in China’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of China’s oil & gas industry in August 2022.

1) Database and Network Administrators and Architects recorded a share of 35.29% in August 2022, registering a 20% growth over the previous month.

2) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers claimed a 29.41% share, a decrease of 64.29% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 26.47%, registering an 80% rise from July 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 8.82%, down 75% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in China’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 48.57% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of China’s oil & gas industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

BASF posted 9 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 72.73% over the previous month, followed by Wacker Chemie with 3 jobs and a flat growth. Avantor with 2 IT jobs and Baker Hughes with 2 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 100% growth, respectively, while Clariant recorded an increase of 100% with 2 job postings during August 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 52.94%, down by 50% from July 2022. Mid Level positions with a 29.41% share, registered a decline of 28.57% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 17.65% share, down 14.29% over July 2022.
