Malaysia’s oil & gas industry registered a 5.4% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 6.37% in November 2021 when compared with October 2021.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 17.84% share in November 2021, recording an increase of 2.34% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Malaysia’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Malaysia’s oil & gas industry in November 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 71.43% in November 2021, registering a 37.5% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer Support Specialists claimed a 14.29% share, an increase of 400% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 8.57%, registering a 66.67% decline from October 2021.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 5.71%, down 33.33% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in Malaysia’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 42.42% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Malaysia’s oil & gas industry during November 2021 over October 2021.

Evonik Industries posted 5 IT jobs in November 2021 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Yara International with 4 jobs and a flat growth. Royal Dutch Shell with 4 IT jobs and Air Liquide with 3 jobs, recorded a 42.86% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while BASF recorded a decline of 85.71% with 3 job postings during November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 62.86%, down by 45% from October 2021. Mid Level positions with a 28.57% share, registered an increase of 11.11% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with an 8.57% share, down 50% over October 2021.
