North America witnessed a 5.4% rise in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

September 2022 has seen an increase of 0.5% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 4.05% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2022, registering a decrease of 0.07% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 28.11% in September 2022, a 16.49% rise over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in next, claiming a share of 27.45% in September 2022, marking a 21.69% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 19.65% in September 2022, a 1.66% drop from August 2022.

Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 13.68% in September 2022, an 18.71% rise over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 60.34% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during September 2022 over previous month.

Koch Industries posted 179 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered an increase of 9.82% over the previous month, followed by Sasol with 150 jobs and a 74.42% growth. Nutrien with 72 IT jobs and Air Products and Chemicals with 37 jobs, recorded a 2300% rise and a 5.71% rise, respectively, while Oceaneering International recorded a 337.5% increase with 35 job postings during September 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 91.87% share in September 2022, a 15.3% increase over August 2022. Canada featured next with a 6.8% share, up 49.09% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 1.33% share, a drop of 33.33% compared with August 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.84%, up by 20.31% from August 2022. Mid Level positions with a 20.65% share, registered a growth of 0.81% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 14.18% share, up 22.14% over August 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.25%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
