North America witnessed a 7.3% rise in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.
September 2021 has seen an increase of 9.55% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 4.27% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2021, registering an increase of 0.02% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 53.05% in September 2021, an 18.13% rise over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 14.79% in September 2021, marking a 22.47% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 13.16% in September 2021, a 15.48% rise from August 2021.
Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 12.48% in September 2021, a 5.75% rise over the previous month.
Top five oil & gas companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 24.85% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s oil & gas industry during September 2021 over previous month.
Exxon Mobil posted 85 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered an increase of 66.67% over the previous month, followed by TotalEnergies with 37 jobs and a 60.87% growth. PPG Industries with 32 IT jobs and Marathon Petroleum with 30 jobs, recorded a 5.88% drop and a 16.67% drop, respectively, while Baker Hughes Holdings recorded an 8% increase with 27 job postings during September 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s oil & gas industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 90.64% share in September 2021, a 17.61% increase over August 2021. Canada featured next with a 6.92% share, down 12.07% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 2.44% share, a drop of 25% compared with August 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 61.19%, up by 15.64% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 26.19% share, registered a decline of 2.03% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 12.48% share, up 46.03% over August 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.14%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
