South & Central America witnessed a 9.4% drop in IT hiring activity in the oil & gas industry in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

August 2022 has seen a decrease of 1.91% in the overall hiring activity when compared with July 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 12.12% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2022, registering a decrease of 2.1% over the last three-month average share.

Computer and Information Analysts Occupations leads by classification in August 2022

Computer and Information Analysts Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in South & Central America with a share of 40.3% in August 2022, a 20% rise over the previous month. Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers came in next, claiming a share of 23.88% in August 2022, marking a 27.27% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer Support Specialists with a share of 18.28% in August 2022, a 16.67% rise from July 2022.

Database and Network Administrators and Architects registered a share of 8.96% in August 2022, a 4% decline over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in South & Central America’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 7.86% in the overall IT recruitment activity of South & Central America’s oil & gas industry during August 2022 over previous month.

Ecopetrol posted 234 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered an increase of 3.08% over the previous month, followed by Braskem with 4 jobs and a flat growth. INNIO Jenbacher GmbHOG with 3 IT jobs and Irving Oil with 3 jobs, recorded a 200% rise and a 200% rise, respectively, while Yara International recorded a flat growth with 3 job postings during August 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in South & Central America’s oil & gas industry

Brazil commanded a leading presence in the region’s oil & gas industry IT hiring activity with a 92.16% share in August 2022, a 1.2% decrease over July 2022. Argentina featured next with a 2.99% share, up 33.33% over the previous month. Colombia recorded a 1.49% share, a growth of 100% compared with July 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 81.72%, up by 3.79% from July 2022. Entry Level positions with a 12.31% share, registered a decline of 10.81% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 5.97% share, flat growth over July 2022.
