The UK’s oil & gas industry registered a 0.9% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 6% in November 2021 when compared with October 2021.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 6.95% share in November 2021, recording a flat growth over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 95.71% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry in November 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 55.71% in November 2021, registering an 11.36% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed an 18.57% share, an increase of 8.33% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 11.43%, registering a 60% rise from October 2021.

4) Computer and Information Research Scientists captured a share of 5.71%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 21.05% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s oil & gas industry during November 2021 over October 2021.

Baker Hughes posted 12 IT jobs in November 2021 and registered a rise of 20% over the previous month, followed by BP with 10 jobs and an 11.11% growth. LyondellBasell Industries with 9 IT jobs and Schlumberger with 9 jobs, recorded a 40% decline and a 350% growth, respectively, while John Wood Group recorded an increase of 200% with 6 job postings during November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 57.14%, down by 23.08% from October 2021. Mid Level positions with a 22.86% share, registered a decline of 5.88% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 20% share, up 250% over October 2021.
