The US’s oil & gas industry registered a 1.1% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 7.06% in August 2022 when compared with July 2022.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.94% share in August 2022, recording a decrease of 0.45% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.61% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s oil & gas industry in August 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 28.01% in August 2022, registering a 14.57% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 26.28% share, an increase of 43.2% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 23.24%, registering a 2.39% rise from July 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 13.46%, up 24% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 21.54% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s oil & gas industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

Koch Industries posted 160 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 1.84% over the previous month, followed by Sasol with 68 jobs and a 13.33% growth. Air Products and Chemicals with 35 IT jobs and Eastman Chemical with 27 jobs, recorded an 84.21% growth and a 50% growth, respectively, while W&T Offshore recorded a flat growth with 26 job postings during August 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 62.11%, down by 1.21% from July 2022. Mid Level positions with a 24.32% share, registered an increase of 23.08% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 13.25% share, up 27.08% over July 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.33%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
