The US’s oil & gas industry registered an 8.9% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 10.12% in September 2021 when compared with August 2021.

Out of the oil & gas industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.2% share in September 2021, recording an increase of 0.08% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US’s oil & gas industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.5% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s oil & gas industry in September 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 53.29% in September 2021, registering a 24.91% flat growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 15.12% share, an increase of 29.49% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 13.32%, registering a 12.66% rise from August 2021.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 11.68%, up 8.33% over the previous month.

Top five oil & gas companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 33.8% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s oil & gas industry during September 2021 over August 2021.

Exxon Mobil posted 78 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 69.57% over the previous month, followed by TotalEnergies with 37 jobs and a 60.87% growth. Marathon Petroleum with 30 IT jobs and Baker Hughes Holdings with 23 jobs, recorded a 16.67% decline and a 9.52% flat growth, respectively, while Univar Solutions recorded an increase of 37.5% with 22 job postings during September 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 61.23%, up by 19.94% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 26.05% share, registered a flat growth compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 12.57% share, up 58.49% over August 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.15%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
