Samaria is a producing heavy oil field located onshore Mexico and is operated by Petroleos Mexicanos. The field is located in block A-0296-Samaria.

An expansion project is associated with the Samaria, namely Samaria Development. This project is currently in the approval stage.

Production from Samaria

The Samaria heavy oil field recovered 96.18% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production in 1978. The peak production was approximately 313.69 thousand bpd of crude oil and condensate and 353 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2044. The field currently accounts for approximately 1% of the country’s daily output.


Remaining recoverable reserves

The field is expected to recover 81.54 Mmboe, comprised of 75.87 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate and 34.07 bcf of natural gas reserves. Samaria heavy oil field reserves accounts 0.19% of total remaining reserves of producing heavy oil fields globally.
