Western Libya Gas Project (Wafa and Bahr Essalam) is a producing conventional gas field located onshore Libya and is operated by Mellitah Oil & Gas. The field is located in block NC 41 (Area 1,2,16 & 17) and NC 169A (Area 95 & 96), with water depth of 984 feet.
Two expansion projects are associated with the Western Libya Gas Project (Wafa and Bahr Essalam) conventional gas field, namely Western Libya Gas Project (Structure A & E) Development and Bahr Essalam Compression Project. The expansion projects are currently in the approval and feasibility stage.
Field participation details
The field is owned by Eni and National Oil Corporation of Libya.
Production from Western Libya Gas Project (Wafa and Bahr Essalam)
The Western Libya Gas Project (Wafa and Bahr Essalam) conventional gas field recovered 50.74% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production in 2015. The peak production was approximately 76.61 thousand bpd of crude oil and condensate, 1,143 Mmcfd of natural gas and 26.38 thousand bpd of natural gas liquids. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2077. The field currently accounts for approximately 44% of the country’s daily output.
Remaining recoverable reserves
The field is expected to recover 1,292.01 Mmboe, comprised of 99.41 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate, 5,692.95 bcf of natural gas reserves and 243.77 Mmbbl of natural gas liquid reserves. Western Libya Gas Project (Wafa and Bahr Essalam) conventional gas field reserves accounts 0.42% of total remaining reserves of producing conventional gas fields globally.
