As part of the contract, Baker Hughes will establish a dedicated research and technology development centre within the Ahmadi Innovation Valley.
This facility will focus on evaluating and deploying technology solutions aimed at optimising oil production and addressing operational challenges defined in KOC’s technology roadmap.
Baker Hughes chairman and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli said: “Baker Hughes is committed to deeply understanding KOC’s development aspirations and providing the solutions needed to help achieve them.
“Working together, we aim to deliver tailored technology solutions at scale that improve production performance and efficiency, supporting KOC’s goals to maximise value from their assets.”
Specific areas of development include the use of digital tools and artificial intelligence automation to increase recovery rates, reduce operating costs, limit water production, and minimise power consumption.
The initiative forms part of KOC’s strategy to enhance oil and gas development by leveraging external technology expertise.
According to Baker Hughes, the new research centre will provide continuous evaluation of new approaches and offer large-scale delivery of technology solutions, while also building local technical expertise in Kuwait.
Baker Hughes has maintained a presence in Kuwait for more than 40 years, supporting the country’s upstream energy sector with a range of technology solutions and local initiatives.
The award follows separate multi-year agreements issued by KOC for the Ahmadi Innovation Valley.
In June 2026, SLB was awarded a seven-year contract by Kuwait Oil Company to support applied research, technology deployment, and digital innovation.
The agreement covers priorities including artificial intelligence, industrial internet of things, production optimisation, reservoir technology, water management, and energy transition initiatives.
Another agreement was made in July 2026 with Halliburton, appointing the company to support research and development for brownfield, greenfield, and unconventional oil fields in Kuwait.
Halliburton’s programme includes deploying digital and AI-based solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
The Ahmadi Innovation Valley is described by KOC as a flagship initiative aimed at advancing the transformation of Kuwait’s energy sector by embedding applied research and technology as permanent capabilities within its operations.
Last month, Baker Hughes secured three contracts to supply equipment and services for the expansion of Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, US.
